ABOUT US
Octopi Renewed is a subsidiary of the Octopi Group, that started trading in the Office Automation industry in 1985. The Group has branches located throughout South Africa and sizeable network of dealers across Southern Africa. Within the Group we have extensive in-house and external sales, technical and support resources that enable us to assist customers with both new and renewed printing and other business technology solutions.
Octopi Renewed focuses on the sourcing, refurbishing and redeployment of renewed printing and scanning technologies. We do this in conjunction with our youth development programme and together with input and participation from our partners, including those in appropriate Government departments, our clients and the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
Given the vast fleet of printing and scanning devices already deployed in South Africa, all of which were originally imported, we have the amazing opportunity to:
- Create a local supply source which brings financial savings and benefits to all involved.
- Extend the life of appropriate existing technologies, so reducing e-waste and delivering a net positive effect on our environment.
- Bring skills development, employment opportunities and the sense of self-pride through purpose and contribution, to the youth that we grow and assist.
Our extensive Octopi Group capabilities offer our clients’ end-to-end business solutions, including:
- Corporate and Government clients looking for tailored ‘as-a-Service’ solutions, encompassing structured rentals, onsite service, consumables etc. as well as procurement and social development related benefits of being associated with our youth and skills programmes.
- Industry resellers and channel partners looking for reliable product supply, great pricing and delivery throughout Southern Africa.
Our competitive advantage is to give value to the reuse of products, betting on a circular economy that promotes the optimisation of resources in a more sustainable way.
Achieving Level 1 B-BBEE Contributor status reflects our commitment to transformation but also creates measurable benefits for our valued customers.

OCTOPI RENEWED YOUTH TRAINING PROGRAM
Octopi Renewed offers a comprehensive training and development programme for learnership candidates, encompassing work-based education and skills development.
Youth development is a priority for our organisation as it aligns with our commitment to empowerment and sustainability. All learners complete SETA certified classroom training in our learning centre at the Octopi Renewed Midrand office, in addition to hands-on technical skills training. These learners play a fundamental role in our technology renewal process which spans the business lifecycle of receiving, assessing, dismantling, refurbishing, reassembling, testing of both hardware and software components, packaging, storage and distribution.
The learners that complete the training programme have the opportunity to be permanently employed within the Octopi Group or be promoted elsewhere in the ICT industry.
Over the past five years, we have developed a unique programme sourcing unemployed youth through our recruitment department and placing them in accredited pathways in career areas such as:
- Office equipment technicians
- Stock control
- IT systems support
- Customer care
- Sales
- General administration
We are proud of the meaningful jobs created and the absorption rates achieved through this programme.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Octopi Group takes our responsibility to social development and empowerment seriously. To this end, we have initiated a number of community projects that are aimed at sustainably improving people’s lives. With these initiatives, we are not just shaping a compelling growth story for the Group, but also contributing positively to the broader community.
We are part of the YES for Youth Programme where unemployed youth are given the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience in the Group’s companies in order to enhance their skills and experience, with a goal of making them more employable. The Youth Employment Service (YES) creates employment opportunities for youth by partnering with businesses to develop learnership programmes that not only transform lives, but also unlock business benefits that drive organisational growth.
Our Learnership Programme gives young people the opportunity to embark on a one-year programme where academic theory and work experience are combined, with the goal of permanent employment. Since the inception of our youth development programme a number of years ago when we began with a handful of learnerships, we have now evolved into a robust training programme accommodating around 95 youth annually. We are proud of the multitude of skills these young people have acquired, ranging from refurbishing and fixing electronic equipment to providing customer support and working in sales.
Our BEE Machine Donation is an ongoing project where we donate printers/copiers, with full maintenance services included, to non-profit and other organisations that assist with social and economic development. Some of these recipients include underprivileged schools, business incubation hubs, and small businesses. Currently we have more than 100 machines at various organisations, assisting in various ways with development and upliftment.
We support the Wot-If Trust based in Diepsloot that focuses on entrepreneur and supplier development, as well as skills development of the local community. Their various programmes focus on youth development, nurturing education and cultivating a spirit of entrepreneurship, to ensure the creation of sustainable opportunities. They connect local entrepreneurs to opportunities to earn sustainable incomes by providing them with the resources, training and access to markets they need to grow their businesses. At the facility in Diepsloot, the community can access information, technology and resources like printers and photocopiers supplied by the Octopi Group.
We built the Amohelang Pre-School located close to the Uitspanning Village in Marken, Limpopo. The school is located next to the Keta Private Nature Reserve. This nursery school nurtures and educates children aged 0 to 5 years from the local community. With donations like toys, puzzles, and crayons from employees and support from the Group’s companies, the school was capacitated with furniture, printers, computers, solar energy, a CCTV security system and recreational equipment.
With these initiatives we are contributing positively to the broader community, in addition to offering invaluable training, development and potential employment for the previously unemployed youth. These initiatives are not just about business expansion; it is about making a positive difference to the communities we serve and creating opportunities for the youth.
Beyond Compliance: Real Transformation
At Octopi, transformation is not just about certificates, it is about tangible, lasting impact:
- Enterprise & Supplier Development – Direct investment in small businesses within underprivileged communities, providing IT capacity, equipment and support.
- Socio-Economic Development – Empowering non-profits in the IT sector with real tools, training, and resources.
- Youth Employment Journey – Preparing young people for careers across ICT, office equipment, logistics, customer service, sales and administration business functions.
SUSTAINABILITY
The Octopi Group endeavours to conduct its business in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way through various business practices.
We only sell and support technology from reputable Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that subscribe to environmentally conscious business practices. The technology identified by us for refurbishing at Octopi Renewed is appropriate in every aspect – age, condition, energy efficiency, omissions compliance etc. By refurbishing and remarketing these technologies we reduce the amount of electronic equipment (e-waste) that would have ended up at landfill sites, thereby reducing our carbon footprint.
Any technology that passes through our Group that is not identified for renewal is channelled to our recycling partners who are also vetted for their rigorous device stripping and materials recycling programmes. We will gladly assist in facilitating your e-waste management requirements, further ensuring:
- Information Security: Protect sensitive data that may still be stored on the device by destroying it securely before it is recycled or disposed of.
- Regulatory Compliance: Comply with regulations, such as the Basel Convention and the Waste Electrical and the Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.
The Octopi Renewed collective of People, Purpose and Planet speaks to sustainability as a whole as we work toward preserving social capital through investing in and creating services that have a positive impact on others and on the world.
As part of this commitment, you are welcome to visit our specially developed youth programme site, Octopi Renewed. Here, our youth begin their journey by learning the discipline of work, technical, customer care, and sales skills on used office equipment. This forms a cornerstone of our green initiative, ensuring that office equipment (and in future, security equipment) taken off contract are refurbished and repurposed for the benefit of multiple sectors.
This means that our B-BBEE initiatives dovetail seamlessly with sustainability goals, minimising waste, extending the lifecycle of valuable assets, and reducing harmful impact on our planet.
The Octopi Group is committed to building a more sustainable future in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as supported by South Africa. SDGs form the foundation of our future, therefore we select partners that are aligned with these goals. Our goals are to deliver sustainable value, to positively impact our communities, to make a difference in education, to promote gender equality, to provide job opportunities, to participate in economic growth, and to use technology to reduce our impact on the environment.
